CTOC CONCLUDED

The course, unique in the panorama of NATO's educational offer, reached the fifth edition

Motta di Livenza, 30th April 2021

On April 30, 2021, the CIMIC Tactical Operator Course (CTOC), the course dedicated to civil-military cooperation operators who work at field level, was concluded.

The course, organized in two weeks, the first one in e-learning mode, aims to provide attendees with the knowledge and skills to interface with the numerous actors, military and civilian, who are present in the area of operation.

The 28 students, coming from all the Italian Armed Forces, received lessons on various doctrinal aspects, from interpreter management to assertive communication, from gender mainstreaming to cultural awareness. Students had the possibility to test on the ground the technical-tactical procedures to achieve a fruitful liaison between civil and military environment. The students, in fact, interacted with actors (role players) to put in place the negotiation practices in situations of psycho-physical stress, on purpose generated by the MNCG instructors, thanks to injections, physical activities and an intense battle rhythm.

Worth of mention is the collaboration with an US Army Civil Affairs officer, who supports the course execution as part of a NATO CIMIC instructors exchange program. The course, unique in the panorama of NATO's educational offer, reached its fifth edition complying with the Covid-19 restrictions.

Among the instructors there was also the Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG) Commander, Colonel Mattia Zuzzi, who, after introducing the MNCG capabilities, gave a lesson on the role of the MNCG in multi-domain operations.

CIMIC operators are still employed in crisis areas where the Armed Forces are called to operate, and this allows to obtain a virtuous cycle of teaching: to carry out in operation what has been studied in the classroom and teach in the classroom what is learned in operation, to offer training perfectly in line with the current, changing and complex operational scenarios.

The Multinational CIMIC Group, which includes, among the contributing nations, beyond Italy, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Hungary, today represents a real pole of excellence for the training of operators working in the delicate field of civil-military cooperation. To date, more than 2300 students, civil and military, Italian and foreign, have passed among the benches of the "Mario Fiore" barracks, as evidence of a level educational offer, responding to the needs of those who face the changing challenges of today's operational scenarios.
