CIMIC LIAISON MODULE (CLM)

4 working days’ course (Monday to Thursday) organized in class lectures and syndicate work. Course is designed to provide former NATO CIMIC Basic course’s students with knowledge, skills and tools needed to improve their Liaison capabilities. Course content includes CIMIC Liaison Officer’s profile, task and responsibilities, CIMIC Liaison field experiences, cultural awareness, etc.
Communication & negotiation lectures & training will remain anyhow pivotal in the course curricula. (for more info download and read carefully the course’s documents)
The course is open to NATO, Partnership for Peace, Istanbul Conference Initiative, Mediterranean Dialogue personnel, and to civilians engaged or interested in humanitarian activities having already attended the NATO CIMIC Basic Course.
The module is exclusively designed for former NCBCs’ students.

CONTENTS

NATO CIMIC doctrine, and procedures
- CIMIC Liaison & Co-ordination Architecture.
- Fundamentals, key CIMIC activities related to liaison, liaison & coordination matrix;
- CIMIC Liaison Officers: role within military staff, role within UN cluster approach;
- CIMIC LO profile workshop.

CIMIC Los’ experiences in recent and current missions
-CIMIC aims, structure, organization and operational use.
-Field experiences: common sense and practical TTPs.
-Reports from missions abroad.

Civilian agencies
- Role & opportunities of IOs/GOs/NGOs.
- Implications for military missions.
- Cooperation with IOs/GOs/NGOs.
- Coordination & participation to Civil Clusters Liaison.

Communication & Negotiation

- Fundamentals, techniques procedures.
- Meeting organization;
- Communication effectiveness.
- Negotiation (UN / NATO standards)
- Informing & persuading techniques.
- Intercultural communication.

CIMIC & MEDIA

- Cooperation & interrelations with media representatives.
- Media interview simulation.
